Children in the Middle of the Flood in Pakistan
In flood hit areas of Pakistan more than one in four schools has been damaged or destroyed according to a report by Save the Children
Meanwhile in flood hit areas all schools are closed until at least the middle of next month. Many schools are being turned into shelters and even hospitals in the worst hit areas.
According to the UN 3.5 million children are now at risk from cholera as clean drinking water is no longer available - famine is also a grave threat to millions of children.
The response from western governments to the crisis has been slow and there is huge concern that the situation is going to become much worse with all that entails for the children of Pakistan. At least 17 million people are estimated to have had their lives disrupted by the crisis and there is rising anger in the country at the government's failure to make an adequate response.
