Argentinian Teachers in Further Strikes
‘The state is not your private company’ Teachers demonstrate in Buenos Aires
Teachers in Buenos Aires are to go on strike again on November 25th and 26th
The teachers are members of UTE-CTERA the Argentinian education workers’ union. They are striking against proposed budget cuts of 50% in public spending while the government of Mauricio Macri is giving more and more subsidues to private education. Leader of UTE Alejandro Demichelis said: “The Macri administration of running the City as if it were a company – prioritizing areas related to the private sector and other areas that are not related to public investment.”
After recovering from its economic crisis at the begininning of the decade, Argentina has now been plunged into a new crisis by the world economic collapse, causing huge increases in unemployment and poverty.
