EI condemns Violence against Teachers in Philippines
Campaigning against extra judicial Killings in the Philippines
Education International (EI) has issued a statement condemning violence against teachers in the Philippines
The Philippine teaching union Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) has condemned the brutal killing of the vice-principal of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Augusto F. Cezar in October. Militia and paramilitary groups have been set up in the Philippines with the approval of the government and these groups are responsible for attacks on union activists including extra judicial killings.
On its website the ACT notes: "that the President was turning a blind eye to the track record of human rights violations involving paramilitaries. It is a known fact that paramilitaries are consistently reported as perpetrators of various human rights violations, most especially in far-flung areas." http://www.act-teachers.com/2011/10/
