This is a video from the US which robustly tackles what's wrong with high stakes testing
Many teachers in the northern hemisphere are coming up to the testing season. Not only are these tests shrinking the curriculum, stifling creativity and forcing teachers to teach to the test - they are also too often a stressful time for children and their parents. In New York and Los Angeles now, teachers are even being pilloried in the press by name if their students' test scores do not reach some mythical acceptable level. They are also making huge profits for IT and education corporations like Pearson and IBM. www.teachersolidarity.com just came across this video from teachers in Los Angeles, where hundreds of 'pink slips' (redundancy notices) have just been issued, and thought it might cheer teachers facing this testing time with its robust and satirical look at testing in the US.
