French Teachers Strike over Pension 'Reforms'
French Workers Demonstrating last Month
Teachers have joined other workers who are on strike in France over the Sarkozy government's attack on pensions
This is the third time there have been strikes over the pension proposals in four weeks (see previous posts) and the demonstrations are said to be the biggest so far.
Teachers wre joined by thousands of school children demonstrating against the government's measures as many schools were shut by the strike with some commentators comparing the situation to May June 1968 where students and school students joined older trade unionists fighting against the government.
Transport workers have brought some networks to a halt and oil refinery workers are also on strike. Some unions are considering extending the strike action. Meanwhile opinion polls show that the French public is on the side of the demonstrators.
