Honduran Teachers on Strike

Demonstration against the Coup Last Year

Teachers in Honduras are on strike demanding that the government restores money it owes from their pension and welfare fund

The governmemt – which came to power after an illegal coup last year – still owes the teachers’ fund about $158 and teachers’ leaders are not convinced by the government’s promises to pay it back after some delay. Striking teachers have marched and erected barricades in the streets of the country’s capital Tegucigalpa.

Teachers were in the forefront of the fight against the illegal coup last year (see previous post: http://www.teachersolidarity.com/blog/honduras-teachers-in-prolonged-strike-against-coup/)
