Honduras Teachers Strike Today for Back Pay
Honduran Teachers in a Previous Strike - facing up to armed Security Forces
Once again teachers in Honduras have been driven to strike action to try to secure salary owed to them
It was only a few weeks ago - at the end of May - that teachers in Honduras were on strike for the same reason. Since the illegal coup in 2009 by Pepe Lobo, teachers have had their pension funds stolen, their pay withheld and suffered brutal attacks including beatings, arrests and killings as a result of their determined struggle to resist privatisation, fight for their rights and for the restoration of democracy in that country.
Now all teachers are still waiting for money that was due in June and some have not been paid for two and a half to three years - as a result the union COPEMH - has called today's strike.
