Hungarian Teachers to Demonstrate against Pay Cuts

Teachers in Hungary are to demonstrate on November 29th against planned pay cuts.

Teachers are joining law enforcement personnel and civil servants in a demonstration against proposed cuts to their pay. At present civil servants earn an average of 500 euros a month. A 12% cut in this is planned by the government. In addition the teachers’ union the Democratic Trade Union of Teachers (PDSZ) is protesting against increases in their work load for which they have not been paid. Leaders of the various public service unions are also considering strike action in the new year.
