Ireland’s teaching unions are threatening strike action in the face of vicious cuts in the education budget
Two out of three primary schools have lost English language teachers already as a result of the cutbacks. Not only that but the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) has threatened teachers with pay cuts. At present techers are refusing to do out of hours parents’ evenings in protest but their leaders have threatened to ballot for strike action if further cuts are not withdrawn.
