Migrant Teachers in Louisiana file Lawsuit
Teachers from the Philippines working in the US have filed a lwsuit against the agency which recruited them
The teachers have already won a court case against the firm that recruited them – Universal Placement International (see post of April 21st). The firm had demanded 10% of their first year’s salary and 20% of the subsequent year’s and refused to return their visas if they did not pay up. Now the teachers – through their organisation the Filipino Educators Federation (FEF) and with the help of the US teachers’ union the AFT – have filed a lawsuit against the firm and its Philippine partner for human trafficking, racketeering and extortion.
