Police firing Teargas at Teachers in karachi
Federal Directorate teachers in Pakistan are on indefinite strike since Thursday.
The teachers are members of the Federal Government Teachers Association (FGTA) and are demanding that salary increases which have been promised to them since last November be paid. The President of the FGTA told the Daily Times
that he knew, "protest and boycotting classes would harm the future of children but it is also a concern of our own kids who are suffering due to non-implementation of this package as we have meager salary."
Meanwhile some students have joined the protest with one class 10 student telling the Daily Times:
“What does the government expect from the new generation if teachers were on the roads protesting for their rights. We will also join our teachers if the authorities did not fulfil their demands."
Meanwhile in Sindh Province police charged teachers with batons when they staged a sit in in Karachi. 7000 protestors sat in in front of the Karachi press club demanding proper contracts and payment of salaries.
