Tanzanian Strike Halted by Courts

Tanzanian teachers who had voted to go on strike last week have had their action held up by the courts

The TTU has been to court in an attempt to get the injunction against their strike lifted. The lawyer representing the TTU has stated that the union side were not given a chance to be heard in the original court hearing. While teachers wait for the result of the court action they are involved in a go slow.Meanwhile in a separate development 150 primary school teachers stormed the union headquarters in Dar es Salaam in order to put pressure on the government to pay their salaries. One teacher said she had been paid 35,000 Sh ($28) in July and had not been paid since.
