A Cholera Victim in Zimbabwe
14 teacher trade unionists have been arrested in Zimbabwe of whom 4 still remain in prison as a result of government crackdowns.
Amongst those arrested have been regional organisers of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ). There have been widespread protests, strikes and demonstrations against the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe which has seen hunderds die of cholera and thousands starving. The education system and health systems have largely broken down. Education International has sent a letter of protest to the Mugabe government protesting the arrest of the teacher trade unionists.
