Teachers in the Central American state of Honduras went on strike earlier this month to demand that back pay owed to them be paid
Union leaders say that nealry 3000 teachers are owed back pay and holiday pay. Some are owed as much as twelve months pay. Many schools were closed during the strike and more than two million pupils affected. Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America with an exceptionally unequal distribution of income and 29% unemployment.
