Teachers in Zimbabwe are threatening to go on strike at the beginning of the new term
Teachers are angry that they still have not been told what their salaries will be despite the fact that the government’s budget was announced in December. Teachers’ leaders are demanding salaries in excess of $600 a month which is the poverty datum line. Up till now they have only been getting $150 a month.
An official from the Teachers Union of Zimbabwe said they had been patient for a long time.
“Not reporting for duty on Tuesday will be the last resort if Government fails to give us what we want,” said the official.
