Leaders of both teachers' unions in Zimbabwe will go on strike in May when school starts again unless their salaries are paid
Members of both unions - the Zimabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) and the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) have not been paid properly since February - despite the promises of the new unity government. Staff have been receiving $100 per month - which is barely enough to keep body and soul together - while the rest of their salaries has been paid in the local currency which has been worthless since the dolarisation of the currency.
